Stone trees, 90h x 120w cm, Oil on canvas with ground sandstone and pigments
My work Stone Trees is a portrayal of the unique terrain and colour pallet of the Australian landscape focusing on the Queensland outback. The earthy tones of the native flora and the valleys carved from stone form an aesthetic of grand proportion with trees and stone becoming one and forming a landscape of earthy reds, cremes and rich browns.
Painted using local pigments sampled from the land I’m portraying, the blocks of sandstone form the trees and likewise the trees define the solid blocks of sandstone, a symbiotic relationship to pay homage to the land that surrounds us.
