Growing socials, Oil on Canvas, 91 x 91 cm
“Growth” represents the beauty in emotion and the human connections we create in life, juxtaposed to the often dark and unforgiving world that we live in.
The diversity of expressions and colours invokes a blend of fascination and introspection. In this work, emotions and identities intertwine, painting a vivid portrait of the human experience—multifaceted, nuanced, and endlessly captivating.
Portraying the different masks that people wear daily, the bright colours and the darkened background initially give a joyful feeling but as the painting is further explored it gives a sense of something more, uncertainty, or perhaps the fear of the unknown. To further play on the theme of the portrayal of human traits, a naïve style was used to more easily represent the grey area of what it is to be human.
That being said, the true beauty of this work relies on the viewer, as it can easily be observed as an ominous landscape filled with strangers, but with further introspection, the creatures that were once feared are then seen as friends. A representation of social anxiety and the encouragement to not judge someone at face value.
